Ministries

Our ministries help bring community together..

Spirituality Pillar

The mission of the Spirituality Pillar is to offer education, guidance and support.  We welcome people on all faith journeys. The Pastoral Care Team provides prayers, communication, and visitation to the congregation.

Spirituality Pillar programs include: weekly worship that is vibrant, inclusive and progressive • multi-age children’s Sunday School • prayer bears • spiritual education • Lenten Bible study • book discussion groups • Easter brunch

Community Pillar
Church life is more than worship; we are a community.  The Community Pillar helps plan events so that we can enjoy be together outside of Sunday mornings. From our "Second Sunday Potlucks" to Game Nights  and the Pride Parade, from classes to karaoke, the Community Pillar knits us all together as a group having fun along the way.

Social Justice Pillar

Open Arms strives to be a social justice-focused church. This ministry emphasizes the inter-connectedness among members of our community and the world. Recognizing the gifts in each person enriches the lives of all. Everything we say and do reflects this awareness.

Some of this ministry's ongoing events:

  • Special Programming  (i.e. recycling, clothing swap, Do Unto Others fund)

  • School supplies for children in need

  • Angel Tree (Christmas gifts for children)

  • Supporting the South Wedge Food Pantry

  • Supporting the Mutual Aid Collective

  • Rallying and marching in support of human rights

Music
Our vibrant and lively music selections come from traditional and contemporary Christianity, as well as mainstream popular culture, and are sure to move even the sleepiest Sunday morning soul!

Children's Ministry

No ministry is more important than that serving the needs of our children. Parents can enjoy service while their children participate in our multi-age Sunday school, held during worship.

Transformative Ministry

Our transformative ministry has a two-part mission.  We support our local transgender and gender expansive community by holding clothing swaps and other events. We educate the public and LGB allies regarding trans- specific vocabulary and etiquette, as well as pending legislation related to gender nondiscrimination.

Mission Statement: We create ties by linking people of diverse gender identities and/or expressions, and allies, through stewardship, education, and social justice.
Vision Statement: We are a faith community that supports and respects people of ALL gender identities and gender expressions.

We provide a safe space for Trans individuals and groups.
